WILDLIFE SCRAMBLE // The Forks Warming Huts v. 2026 Winnipeg, Manitoba

Wildlife Scramble is an interactive public artwork that celebrates the joy of winter through play, storytelling, and discovery. Created for the internationally recognized Warming Huts: An Art + Architecture Competition on Ice, the installation transforms a simple place of shelter into a lively, participatory experience where visitors become part of the artwork itself.
Inspired by Manitoba's rich ecosystems, the structure features a series of custom-illustrated rotating wooden blocks that allow skaters and pedestrians to create endlessly changing combinations of local flora and fauna. Dressed in winter sweaters, toques, and skates, the playful characters invite visitors to pause, experiment, and uncover new stories with every turn.
Designed to be explored from every angle, Wildlife Scramble balances moments of activity with opportunities for rest and connection. Integrated bench seating offers a place to warm up, while framed openings create playful views of the surrounding landscape and memorable photo opportunities along the frozen river trail.
The project reflects Studio Blinky's belief that public art can transform everyday experiences into moments of delight. By combining illustration, architecture, and interaction, the installation encourages curiosity across generations while celebrating the unique character of Manitoba's natural environment and winter culture.
Built for one of the world's most celebrated seasonal art and architecture competitions, Wildlife Scramble demonstrates how thoughtful design can foster community, spark imagination, and create lasting memories in the public realm.
